M50455 Restoration 1999-2004

By 1999 the restoration of M50517 was at a stage where its partner vehicle needed to be started, if a running set was to be formed. 53455 was selected as being the best of the two brake vehicles, 53437 having been withdrawn due to faults as opposed to 53455 which was simply switched off. Relatively straightforward bodywork repairs followed then the interior was rstored alongside M50517's, the vehicles both being painted in 2002, and finally completed in 2004. M50455 has been the easiest restoration so far, mainly due to its extended service in London keeping it going on the mainline for an extra few years, therefore reducing the time spent in storage.
