The exhaust silencer located next to the corridor connection finally gave up when it started blowing oil/exhaust down the guards window. After removal, it was apparent that very little of the "barrel" of the silencer was much good. The ends were removed and a new barrel made out of steel. A coat of primer and high temperature silver paint later and the silencer was returned to its rightful position ready for the booked August running.

The group received a nice surprise when our reconditioned engine, recently fitted to M50517, refused to budge when under the vehicle. After long investigations it would appear the engine had spun its bearings resulting in the "innards" locking up, despite performing well when started up on its pallet prior to fitting. removed and parts sent away for repair. On a brighter note, they were not away for long and have already returned to Cheddleton. Group members are currently in the process of rebuilding the engine ready for fitting again

after August. This should mean M50517 will have both its engines working ready for the 2010 operating season.

Steps forward have been taken with the interior with the completion of bulkhead repairs resulting in much of the sanding of the wood being done. Only a small section of the vehicle remains before varnishing can start. After quite some time of preparations earlier in the year, it was excellent to see the proper grain of the veneer emerging as it was sanded.
