Back on 3 Engines
With some members fuelled by the success of the return of M50517's No1 engine, the other engine that is out of service (M50455's No2 engine) was removed from the vehicle the weekend after the gala. It is to be stripped down immediately to determine the reasons for its demise. Any necessary work will be undertaken before the engine is rebuilt. As a quick solution to getting the set back onto four engines ready for next year's season, this engine's place under M50455 may be replaced by another one from our stores.
As reported in the previous update, our aim for the rebuilt engine was to have it in service for our last running weekend of the operating season, the Anything Goes event in mid November. Thanks to the combined efforts from several of our volunteers, we achieved this aim with the completed engine being tested (in the workshop), sprayed, fitted, "plumbed in" and tested again (under the vehicle) over about ten days. It looks very nice nestled under the vehicle in its new "Aircraft Grey" although it has been said that it won't be staying so shiny for long!! The engine, although yet to be run in, performed faultlessly during the gala weekend and has already become the easiest of all the engines to start up, a real reward for all those involved in the overhaul process.
