Insulation Fitted

2010

Firstly the BRCW Group would like to wish all our web viewers a Happy New Year. Hopefully the site will be continuing to expand throughout 2010 with news about our restoration activities; supplemented by the growth of our galleries, the most successful of which now includes over 450 images of Class 104 DMUs on British Railways, and is believed to be the largest such collection available to the public.

M59137

Significant progress has been made to the appearance of the interior in M59137, following the delivery of silver backed Rockwool insulation in January. Considerable time was spent researching the correct product at the correct size and thankfully, the insulation delivered is perfect for the job, giving the same qualities of the BR fitted fibreglass insulation whilst also having two silver layers which will be even more effective at keeping heat in or out. Two days have been spent cutting/adapting the pre cut pieces to fit the voids and so far the roof and the sections between the windows have been fitted the length of the vehicle, with the rear saloon completed. Only the sections below the windows in the middle/first class saloons and the ends of the vehicle remain.

M50455/M50517

The set is currently out of service, while the railway takes a more relaxed pace over the winter months. M50517 is back on two engines while M50455 remains on one while decisions are made regarding a replacement No2 engine. The set is booked to run an evening shuttle service at the railway’s Steam Gala on the 6th February.
