Oakamoor Specials

During 2009 special passenger services will operate on a limited basis along the usually closed section of line south of Kingsley & Froghall to the start of the ex sand sidings at Oakamoor. This provides two miles of extra line for the visitor to enjoy, on top of the 5.25 miles open for normal passenger services. The nature of the service, along with the condition of the trackwork, means that only Diesel Multiple Units can be used, so the our Class 104 set will be operating the planned shuttle service from Froghall station on the limited days of operation. The route runs along the valley floor and as the images hopefully show, the scenery on this section is excellent, with views opening up almost immediately after departure from Froghall.

Planned Days for 2009

6th & 7th February

The Winter Steam Event is back this year after popular demand in 2008 and features six locomotives: Black 5 45231, 4F 44422, 3F "Jinty" 47279, Large Prairie 5199, 0-6-0 "Ring Haw" & Resident S160 5197). While the steam locos keep busy on the "main line" between Leekbrook & Froghall, a DMU shuttle service will operate on both days to Oakamoor.

Further Dates

It is likely that there will be future opportunities to travel on this part of the line in 2010.
