W86500 Restoration - December 2009-January 2010

Restoration work on W86500 is going well, with at least three people working on the project regularly either at Oakamoor or Cheddleton. At the latter, work on the end doors (which have seen considerable rebuilding work) is reaching its latter stages, the doors now fully repaired and new plywood panels being fitted in the frames, of which about half of the 8 doors have been done. Painting of the doors should follow soon.

Kevin carefully sanding one of the plywood panels in order to make it fit into the frame, which of course is not the same size as any other!

Six miles south, work on the body of W86500 is now progressing again at Oakamoor, after a snowy setback in January which resulted in no access to the site for a month. As with everything carriage wise Heritage Restorations have poked and found a bit of rot, attacked the sides and found loads more! Many rotten pieces have been cut out and are in the process of being replaced with new metal. Of the 8 doors, only one it fit to be put straight back on, the others needing repairs or replacement.

Many thanks to Roger Smith for providing the photographs for the Oakamoor update
